OT Driver Assessment & Rehabilitation
Home & Driving Occupational Therapy Services provides a specialty service for people following a medical illness or injury which has affected their ability to drive a vehicle.
This can involve an:
· Off-Road Assessment
· Practical Driving Trial/ Assessment
· Off-Road Assessment
· Practical Driving Trial/ Assessment
‘H&DOTS’ provide Occupational Therapists who have completed a post-graduate training qualification and are registered with the WA Board of Occupational Therapy. These therapists will perform a comprehensive assessment & report to determine:
ü How a person’s medical condition might impact on their ability to
drive safely
ü Assess an aged person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle (physical &
cognitive capacity)
ü Recommend appropriate vehicle modifications & provide driver
training in their use
ü Assess work related driving capacity
ü Help an individual with a acquired or long term disability begin
driving
ü Help identify alternative transport options to ensure the individual
can access the community independently

Western Australian Law requires that any individual who has sustained a medical illness or injury that may have impacted on their ability to drive is required to notify the Department of Transport (DOT). If you decide not to report a medical condition and you are involved in a traffic incident, you may not be insured and may be prosecuted. Our specially trained Occupational Therapist's can help determine the impact of a person's medical condition/s on driving, and facilitate these individuals to begin or return to driving safely & legally.
